Plastazote is a closed cell, cross-linked polyethylene block foam that be easily fabricated and offers a wealth of benefits. The foam is made up of a large number of nitrogen cells that are held within a polyethylene material. It is lightweight, completely odourless and, as it doesn’t absorb water, is buoyant. Being made of polyethylene it has exceptional chemical resistance to most oils, solvents, acids and alkalis.
Closed cell foams are usually harder, firmer and tougher than open cell foams. They are also much less springy and are able to recover from repeated impacts with each cell acting like a balloon, allowing the foam to bounce back to its original shape. PE Foam is widely regarded as one of the most versatile forms of foam available, with common uses ranging from insulation and packaging to impact absorbing sports-wear and military-grade casing inserts.
PE Foam can be easily shaped and cut. It can be thermoformed, saw and laser cut, and can be routed cleanly using CNC machinery. It is also easy to split and heat laminate, and it can be shaped using water jet equipment. If you have a requirement for machined or finished PE Foam components please ask the Plastock team for more information.
