Polypropylene Copolymer
Polypropylene Copolymer
Polypropylene Copolymer (PPC) is a versatile, lightweight thermoplastic created by polymerizing propylene with another monomer (usually ethylene). By incorporating ethylene monomers into the polymer chain, PPC achieves enhanced impact resistance and flexibility compared to its counterpart, Polypropylene Homopolymer (PPH).
PPC offers a balanced profile of physical and chemical characteristics and is particularly favoured in engineering applications where durability at lower temperatures and resistance to physical stress are paramount.
Key Properties
Mechanical & Physical
- High Impact Strength
Superior resistance to shocks and drops, especially in cold environments. - Chemical Inertness
Excellent resistance to most acids, alkalis, and organic solvents. - Stress Crack Resistance
Enhanced durability under constant mechanical load compared to other polyolefins. - Low Density
One of the lightest engineering plastics, aiding in weight-reduction strategies.
Chemical & Thermal
- Flexibility
Lower stiffness than homopolymers, allowing for "living hinges" and snap-fit joints. - Moisture Resistance
Near-zero water absorption, ensuring dimensional stability in humid conditions. - Thermal Insulation
Good thermal properties for both hot and cold fluid handling. - Food Contact Compliance
Often manufactured to meet FDA and EU standards for food safety.
