Details

Coremat is the most affordable and simplest core material used in advanced composites. It is compatible with all standard resin systems and is used to build up thickness in basic fibreglass moulds and components. Standard coremat is suitable for open mould processes like hand lay up (HLU) and spray up (SU) but is not suitable for resin infusion, vacuum bagging or RTM (resin transfer moulding).

Coremat has a relatively high resin uptake although it is lower than solid laminate, allowing thickness to be built up with less resin and less weight. It is a polyester based non-woven fleece that contains closed microspheres. As the microspheres are closed they do nor absorb resin, so when fully wetted out Coremat is considerably lighter than glass reinforced plastic (GRP), increasing stiffness without the extensive use of costly materials.

Coremat can be easily integrated into any composite part to increase stiffness and decrease weight without the need for special tools or knowledge. Typical applications include marine hulls and decks, car panels and parts, industrial cladding and leisure equipment such as kayaks, surfboards, pools and tubs.
