Polyetheretherketone (also Polyether Ether Ketone) or PEEK for short, is a high-performance engineering thermoplastic that offers excellent resistance to heat and chemicals. It is also incredibly durable, making it the perfect material for use in applications where reliability, wear-resistance and longevity are key. In fact PEEK is so tough that it can even be used in place of metal.
With an excellent balance of physical properties, it has one of the highest levels of heat resistance and mechanical strength available of all the engineering plastics. It is also one of the best choices when looking for good chemical resistance (commonly used in chemical industries) as well as radiation resistance. PEEK polymers offer excellent thermal and mechanical properties, making them high-performance engineering materials perfect for demanding applications. Few plastics in our range offer the benefits offered by PEEK rod, sheet and tube.
PEEK Product Features:
Excellent chemical resistance
Excellent dimensional stability
Low coefficient of friction
Flame retardant (V-O flammability rating)
High tensile strength
Excellent hydrolysis resistance
Very low moisture absorption
Excellent resistance to high energy radiation (gamma- and X-rays)
Unaffected by continuous exposure to hot water or steam
PEEK offers a unique combination of high mechanical properties, temperature resistance (-50°C to +250°c) and excellent chemical resistance, making it one of the most popular advanced plastics materials. PEEK is also self-extinguishing according to UL 94 VO and is food compliant. Contact us about your specific application and we will be happy to recommend the best and most suitable materials.
Available to purchase from stock as a semi-finished sheet, rod or tube product, this versatile material can be processed into machined components which are dimensionally stable even in harsh environments. For products with even greater mechanical strength and stiffness or for specialist grades, we also offer high-performance engineering plastic products which are modified PEEK polymers offering increased fatigue resistance, improved wear resistance or metal detectable polymers. Our high-performance range includes:
Glass filled PEEK33
Carbon filled PEEK
PEEK bearing grade
PEEK PTFE filled bearing grade
Metal detectable PEEK
Conductive PEEK
Antistatic PEEK ESD
PEEK exhibits excellent resistance to various organic solvents, oils, weak acids and alkalis, and can maintain strength over a wide temperature range and concentration. It has proven to be a polymer that is difficult to discolour, expand or break. It is highly resistant to thermal degradation, as well as to attack by both organic and aqueous environments.
Typical applications that are machined from PEEK plastics include:
Electronic industry: insulators, connectors and wafer-carrier
Mechanical engineering: gear wheels, sliding elements, compressor and pump components, drives, bushings, valves and rollers
Automotive industry: clutch and gearbox components and turbocharger impeller
Conveyor technics: guidances, strokes, rollers, grippers, and valves
Medical industry: parts for surgical instruments and short term implants
Food industry: valves, blenders, strippers, dosing systems and kneaders
Oil and gas industry: drill heads, sealings and sensors
